I've finally got around to writing up all of my patterns and the first one is a freebie!
As the restrictions keep getting ever tighter in the current climate, face coverings are now mandatory in so many public places. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of the boring blue masks where the ear loops snap when you're half way around Morrisons.
This crocheted version is perfectly legal (the law states 'face covering' and does not stipulate a medical grade mask, therefore knitted scarves, etc are also permitted). However, if you would like to add another layer of protection, you can sew a square of plain cotton fabric to the inside of the mask.
Yarns
For my pattern I've used Paton's Smoothie DK. This is a perfect yarn for a facemask, as worked on a 3.5mm hook it creates a nice firm, yet soft fabric. It's also essential you use a non-fluffy yarn as this can be irritating (you really don't want to be sneezing in public - the filthy looks are just not worth it!).
Another great yarn for this is Cygnet Super, Safe & Soft DK, as this also has anti-microbial properties. However, this has now been discontinued, so snap it up if you spot it anywhere!
Alternatively, any DK (non-fluffy) yarn will do - ideally anti-pilling yarn such as Cygnet Pure Baby DK or Deramores Studio DK.
Enjoy!!
